Wine Journeys
If you haven’t planned all your holidays this year, then what about visiting a wine region? Wine regions are found on some of the most picturesque slices of earth. They tend to cater for discerning travellers rather than the hoi polloi with great restaurants and a relaxed atmosphere, so they are perfect for short breaks and romantic getaways. A torrid daily schedule could include a couple of winery visits in the morning; a long lunch at a winery; a restorative siesta; a long walk through the vineyards; finishing off with a well-deserved restaurant meal in the evening.
Here are a couple of places I’d recommend:
Champagne – classy and close: great for a romantic weekend.
Beaune, Burgundy – quintessential: you’ll want to visit it again and again.
Piemonte, Italy – delicious food, wonderful wines, set in the Alps.
Franschoek, South Africa – most beautiful vineyards I’ve visited.
Margaret River, Western Australia – great beaches, wild forests, excellent cellar doors.
Of course you can always make the shorter journey down the road to Summertown Wine Café and sample the best wines from all the wine regions at any time, and we run our own Wine Journey every month on Monday evenings with four workshops dedicated to helping you discover the world’s greatest beverage: an excellent way to prepare yourself for all those other journeys ahead of you.
