Why spending a few extra pounds can really make a difference

The sad truth is that taxes now take up a vast share of the price of a bottle of wine.

Fact: 1/3rd of a £7 bottle now goes to the tax-man.

After paying for the stuff that doesn’t improve the wine
(i.e. tax, retailer & importer’s margin, transport and packaging) how good can a cheap bottle of wine be?

Fact: Only about 20p of a £5 bottle goes into making the wine.

By spending a few extra pounds you can drink a significantly better bottle of wine.  How much better?

Fact: A £10 bottle has more than twice the available money to make a great wine than a £7 bottle.
